MMM Day 16

Patisserie in Paris - beautiful, of course!

Today I started my trek home. This picture was taken right outside our hotel in Paris, Signature, as we left for the Orly airport.

Our hostesses at the Signature were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it. Great location - St. Germaine area.

Quirky lobby, comfortable rooms

Pants:

These are my workhorse wool one-seams from Cutting Line Designs. The wool is quite light-weight and they are comfortable.

Top:

This is the Madrid top from the Sewing Workshop. It is an interesting gauzy wool that is black on one side and navy blue on the other.

Coat:

This is the Marcy Tilton coat again, Vogue 8934. I've been surprised at how much I've appreciated having it along for the trip.

Tomorrow I continue Me-Made-May in Atlanta. I suspect I'll have no need for a coat!

MMM Day 15

Today is my last full day in Paris, this time. I hope to return before too much time passes but this has been a great trip. Today's adventures included a visit to the church of St. Sulpice, a lovely church with a meridian marked by a brass line. A small light passes the meridian each day at true noon.

Behind the church I visited a store named Souleaido in hopes of purchasing fabric. They are famous for the design of those brightly colored cotton prints associated with the Provence region. When I was here in 2005, I bought several meters that I incorporated into clothing, as well as quilts. Alas, they no longer sell yardage. They only sell clothing and home accessories. I purchased a small table cloth that can be used as a scarf. Though you can buy knock-offs in similar prints, their cotton was very high quality fabric. I am so sad that they no longer sell yardage.

Next we visited Notre Dame and had lunch at an adjacent sidewalk cafe. Oh, Paris in the spring is divine!

Lastly we attempted to walk to the Eiffel Tower. We got part way there before realizing just how far it was from Notre Dame, particularly since we were following the Seine. We took one of those tricycle cabs for about the last half. Unfortunately the tricycle broke a chain and we had to walk the last few blocks. I am really getting my steps in!

Pants:

These are Helix pants in a medium gray ponte also purchased at the Sewing Workshop.

 

Top:

This is the Odette view from TSW's Odette and Ivy pattern. I've made both. I would love to make a darker Odette. The white knit is certainly great for travel though.

I may be just about ready to return home to my relaxing sewing space!

MMM Day 14

Today was a good day for layers. We traveled from Paris to Versailles, a short distance by train. We took a wonderful bike tour of Versailles. The weather was nearly perfect. It did pour on us while we tried to have a picnic.

Pants:

No surprise there - once again the Helix in black ponte. These are about ready to stand up and walk back to Atlanta. I will NOT be wearing them again this trip. But I do love them still.

Shirt:

This is the Mix It top from the Sewing Workshop. I have made this many times but this is one of my favorite. The fabric is a crisp cotton I purchased from Discover Sewing in Atlanta, I think. It has faded some but I think I like it even better with the color knocked back a bit. It seems to go with everything.

Jacket 1:

My next layer is a Katherine Tilton design for Butterick (5891). The pattern contains a sleeveless top that is most often pictured. The jacket takes a back seat compared to the very interesting lines of the sleeveless shirt. But I like the jacket.

The fabric is Brussels washer in black and white so it reads gray. It serves as a light layer over the Mix It top.

Jacket 2:

There was a bit of rain, here and there, so I was glad to have my raincoat version of the Soho coat from the Sewing Workshop. It packs easily as it is very light. It would not have been enough during the down pour but it was perfect most of the rest of the time.

There was actually another layer, provided by the bike company. This was a huge poncho with a hood and very, very long sleeves. It probably looked like a dress on me. But, boy, did it work during the down pour.

Happy Mother's Day to you, if it applies. My day was grand!

MMM Day 13

Top:

This is the Grainline Lark Tee. This very basic Tee pattern has a number of variations - sleeves, tunic or standard length, necklines. Mine is made in a black and white rayon jersey I purchased in Montreal several years ago. It has long sleeeves, tunic length, and jewel neckline.

Pants:

Sorry to be so boring but I am working out of a suitcase. Once again I wore my Helix pants in black ponte - both from the Sewing Workshop.

Paris is still beautiful with great temps. Today we took the metro to Sacre Couer which just happens to be adjacent to the fabric district. How lovely is that?

I made purchases from two places - Frou Frou and Reine:

Navy and white rayon-poly-lycra knit, three solid cuts of washed linen - white, red, brown

Bonjour!

the real thing at Musee D'Orsay

It's a beautiful day here in Paris. I hope it's lovely where you are too. My ensemble includes a top, pants, and a raincoat, but I did not need the raincoat - hooray!

Pants:

These are the Helix pants in black ponte, pattern and fabric from the Sewing Workshop. It's a great pant pattern if you like uncluttered pull-on pants. They have darts and no waistband. Instead of a waistband, a wide piece of elastic is stitched to the top edge, folded to the inside and anchored in the seams with stitch-in-the-ditch. I find the waistband finish to be a little fussy but well worth the fussing.

Shirt:

This is the as-yet unpublished shirt from the Sewing Workshop. I created an external facing similar to the one here and added white sashiko to highlight the facing. The fabric is a medium weight black cotton, a bit rough like an old linen.

MMM Day 11

Just a quick post before I crash. Due to an overnight flight I started today the same way I finished yesterday. Same ensemble, coordinating circle under my eyes.

Then I checked into a hotel and freshened up a bit:

Shirt:

This is an OOP pattern from the Sewing Workshop - the hibiscus shirt. It is an interesting draft with the layered hem. It includes a collar band and standard collar but, for this one I used just the collar band and made it slightly wider. It has set-in sleeves with an interesting insert near the hem.

Check out that clever pocket!

The fabric is a basic gray shirting and silver buttons, both from Gail K in Atlanta. I added a little sashiko to highlight the cool lines of this shirt pattern.

Pants:

These are the wonderful wool one-seams I wore yesterday. You may be seeing a lot of them in the next few days!

After a quick walk around the neighborhood of my hotel and a walk through Le Bon Marché, I am ready to crash!

So tempting, right?
